Families with children of all ages were invited to drop by the Westwood Public Library (WPL) for Free Play Friday, which took place the first three Friday’s of summer vacation. Within the Children’s Programming Room at the WPL, the library provided an assortment of summer themed crafts, toys, and games available for children and their families.

Within the Children’s Programming Room, there were two crafting tables, which included bingo-dotting art, wooden cut-outs to decorate, and paper puppet-making. The young crowd delighted in experimenting with the different crafts.

The room had a variety of toys, such as a train table, building blocks, and over-sized stuffed animals. There were matching games provided as well. Children were encouraged to make new friends through the engagement within these various activities.

This event allotted children the ability to work on their social skills and play skills, as these different activities required engagement with their peers. While the children chatted, played, and created, adults chatted amongst themselves, allowing friendships of all kids to blossom.

The young attendees proudly displayed their crafts to their peers and their parents and invited their new friends to participate in other activities throughout the Children’s Programming Room.

Free Play Friday offered a fun way to fill the time during summer hours, especially on the rainy Fridays. This program welcomed families to build a stronger sense of community and encouraged the visitation to the library, which is a cherished community resource.
