Families throughout Westwood gathered on October 21st to partake in the festivities of the autumn season at Martha Jones Elementary School. The Westwood Young Women's Club (WYWC) graciously hosted the third annual Harvestfest celebration, a beloved community event. A line of cars wrapped around side streets and filled the parking lot as individuals of all ages eagerly awaited this occasion.
Originally planned as an outdoor event, inclement weather necessitated a relocation to the school's gym. Regardless of the less-than-ideal conditions, a remarkable turnout was witnessed, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Children engaged in a variety of activities, including an obstacle course, pumpkin and cookie decorating, and balloon twisting. Young ones proudly displayed their painted pumpkins, creatively crafted balloon swords and animals, and intricately decorated sugar cookies before savoring their delectable treats. Many children of all ages breezed through the obstacle course, hopped on hopper balls, and practiced their balance on bucket stilts.
The WYWC thoughtfully provided a coloring station offering both blank pages and fall-themed coloring pages, a sensory-friendly table featuring apple pie-scented playdough and a variety of playdough tools, and a glitter tattoo station with autumn-themed tattoo designs. There was certainly no shortage of activities for the families who braved the weather to partake in this festival. Games such as ring toss and cornhole were available, with candy prizes for all participants. Live entertainment and story-time contributed to a lively atmosphere throughout the event.
The undeniable crowd-pleaser was the petting zoo, housing goats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and bunnies under a tent to shield them from the rain. Children eagerly awaited their turn to interact with this variety of creatures, their smiles brightening up the dreary Saturday morning.
Despite uncooperative weather, Westwood families made the most of Harvestfest, and the rain did not dampen their spirits. It is safe to say that everyone is eagerly anticipating next year's Harvestfest.
