On Wednesday, December 20th, the Westwood Council on Aging (COA) hosted their annual holiday luncheon at the Norfolk Country Club. This event was hosted by the Friends of the Westwood COA and packed a full house of Westwood seniors!

When this highly anticipated event went on sale, it quickly sold out within the first ten minutes since many seniors know just how much of an amazing time it is each year. Once arriving at the luncheon, golf carts rode around the parking lot, offering all seniors a helpful lift to the entrance of the club. Upon checking in at the front, everyone found their seats and the Director of Westwood COA, Lina Arena-DeRosa, addressed the attendees.

“Welcome everyone to our annual holiday party,” Lina stated, “I am so glad you could join us today. After the introductions we will be giving away the COA gifts so make sure everyone has their raffle ticket on hand. This event sold out super quickly so we are glad you all were able to be a part of this special day. This event started about six or seven years ago thanks to our sponsorship with Norfolk Country Club and we are just so thankful to have them.”

Lina made some incredible introductions of other board members and sponsors who helped make this whole party happen. After her wonderful speech, it was time to get to everyone’s favorite part, the delectable food! On the menu for today was Caesar salad, cheese raviolis, roasted potatoes, steak tips, green beans, carrots, and rolls. If anyone had room at the end of the meal, gigantic slices of cheesecake and carrot cake were also served. Drinks could be purchased at the cash bar while sodas and water were free of charge.

Throughout the entirety of the afternoon, a harpist was playing beautiful, holiday themed music for all to enjoy. Towards the end of the luncheon, raffle winners were picked for their holiday baskets. As an added surprise, Roche Brothers donated stunning poinsettias and the eldest senior at each table got to take one home. Many of the seniors were thrilled to win the different prices/flowers and overall had an amazing time at this event.
