The students in Westwood High’s Class of 2016 came together to celebrate their graduation from Westwood High at the annual commencement exercises at the high school gymnasium on June 6.
For many students, commencement is the final day the students will be together as one group, as Westwood’s newest high school graduates prepare to embark on the next journey of their lives outside of Westwood’s public school system.
The commencement speeches began with a welcome address by Meredith Brodsky, the Class of 2016 President. Westwood High Principal Sean Bevan delivered an address to the graduates, and also presented the memorial awards and scholarships with Assistant Principal Nicole Haberman.
Michael Xiao, the Class of 2016 Valedictorian, delivered the valedictorian speech, and Westwood Public Schools Superintendent John Antonucci officially certified the Class of 2016 before handing out diplomas.
After the graduation speeches, awards ceremonies, and after all of the students walked across the stage and received their diplomas, the Class of 2016 threw their caps in the air to celebrate passing a significant milestone in their lives, and to mark the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
After the commencement ceremonies, the Class of 2016 enjoyed a final night together at the annual All Night Graduation Party.
The party, which runs from late in the night on graduation night to early the next morning, provides Westwood High seniors with a safe and fun atmosphere to celebrate their accomplishment.
