The New England Brass Band will celebrate spring with an outdoor, family-friendly concert on Saturday, May 5, at First Parish of Westwood, to be held rain or shine. This concert is the second in a series for fundraisers to raise money to replace the church's aging piano.
In only a few short months since the inception of the piano fund at the end of last year, and following it's successful April piano fundraising concert, An Evening of Music, First Parish of Westwood finds itself at 80 percent of its lofty goal of $18,000. It is hoped that funds raised from the NEBB concert will close the remaining gap.
NEBB is a 30-piece brass and percussion ensemble founded in 1988. It has played to audiences all over New England, showcasing a British Brass Band style of playing.
The upcoming May 5 concert is a rescheduling of NEBB's winter performance at First Parish, sponsored by the Roy & Eleanor London Memorial Music Fund. The NEBB winter concert was cancelled last year due to a December snowstorm. The rescheduling of NEBB's concert to May 5 fortuitously coincided with the church's piano fundraising efforts. Rescheduling the performance to this spring also offers a welcome change of scenery from snow to sun, and marks the band's first performance on the outdoor patio of the church's new building addition.
The performance will be viewable both on the lawn and from an indoor space, called the Gathering Hall, which looks out onto the patio. Attendees are invited to bring outdoor chairs and blankets if planning to sit outside. Indoor seating will also be available. In the event of rain, the entire performance will be moved inside to the Meeting House.
The event is handicap accessible and free parking is available in the church lot. Overflow parking will also be available within a few minutes walking distance.
Admission is at the door. General admission is $15 per person; discounted admission is $10 for seniors and students, $35 for families (for up to five members).
