Wellesley Wellness Retreat upcoming

On Saturday, March 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the women of Wellesley and surrounding towns are invited to gather for a retreat focused on smart self-care. Topics are of special interest to mothers, but all are welcome.

Sponsored in part by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, the second annual Wellesley Wellness Retreat will take place at the Hunnewell Carriage House at Elm Bank in Wellesley.

The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with an optional all-levels yoga class. General arrival time is 9:00AM for an introduction and a brief guided meditation, followed by a series of small breakout group workshops. The common thread through the day’s wide variety of topics is self-care that supports wholehearted living and vibrant good health.

Morning programing with co-founders Stacy Kennedy, MPH, RD, Molly Shrewsberry, MPH, MS, and Cory Halaby, RYT, will explore food choice and nutrition, individual self-care style, and mindfulness tools.

Cory Halaby explains, “Self-care is a gentle, on-going effort to tend to the needs of your mind, body and spirit, so that you can thrive as an individual. It’s not about being high-maintenance or selfish. It’s about treating yourself with kindness and respect, no matter what. When we talk about smart self-care, we mean practices and choices that have been studied by scientists, handed down through wisdom traditions, road-tested by moms like us, and found both effective and practical, meaning it’s actually possible to include these things in the real life of a busy mother.”

Afternoon programming includes presentations from six local wellness experts and range from Mindful Eating with Dr. Russell Kennedy, to the Stress and the Inflammatory Response with Dr. Janine Pardo, to Essential Oils for Self-Care with Molly Shrewsberry.

In addition, Simplicity Parenting consultant and coach, Polly Mahoney, will discuss creating meaningful family routines. Lisa Schreider, President of Lisa’s Hands of Time Concierge, LLC, will present ways moms can make the best use of their valuable time.

Doula, pre/postnatal yoga expert and massage therapist, Marissa Farrell, will introduce her InHara Practice for core recovery and connection.

Marcie Bower, LicAc., of Stepping Stone Acupuncture and Wellness in Wellesley will be on hand for individual Introductory Acupuncture appointments. Also by appointment, Marla Dygon, LMT, OMT, owner of Body Balance in Newton, is providing chair massages.

Cost for the day is $125, with an option to purchase lunch, which includes an organic salad and cold-pressed juice from Cocobeet. Extra refreshments will be available from sponsors.
