On Monday, March 14, a 21-year-old Wellesley man was arraigned in Dedham District Court on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury, Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and Causing a Serious Injury Accident, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding and Failure to Keep Right for Oncoming Traffic.
The arraignment was the result of an arrest Wellesley Police made on Friday, March 11 after responding to Hampshire Rd. near Bristol Rd. at 6:12 p.m. after receiving a report that a bicyclist had been struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene of the accident. Witnesses at the scene of the accident were able to give officers a description of the vehicle.
The cyclist, a 47-year-old male from Framingham, was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston. According to a press release from the Wellesley Police Department, he suffered non-life threatening injuries despite being unconscious and unresponsive at the scene.
The Wellesley Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene, and investigators from the Wellesley Police Department and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate.
The suspect came to the police station voluntarily, according to the press release, where he was then arrested after speaking to officers. Following the standard booking procedure, the suspect was then released on $3,000 bail.
