Wellesley High’s class of 2017 is inviting everyone to go directly to Wellesley High on April 9 for their Monopoly-themed auction. The fun begins at 7 p.m. with “free parking” and is open to all members of the community.
This year’s event will have both silent and live auctions featuring items generously donated by families, local merchants and students. The Wellesley-opoly Community Chest is filled with fabulous items for auction-goers to bid on.
Some of the big ticket items up for grabs this year include the ever-popular Graduation VIP package (six front row seats and two parking spaces), summer vacation for six in Steamboat, Colorado, tickets to the Zac Brown concert at Fenway park and a stay at El Silencio in Costa Rica.
“The auction has truly been a class and community event. From the hundreds of student and parent volunteers to the donations from hundreds of people, families and organizations in the Greater Boston area”, said class President Tony Shu.
Shu and the other class of 2017 officers Jack McKenna (Vice President), Kerry Harrington (Secretary) and Savitri Fouda (Treasurer) have been hard at work to make the evening a success. Many members of the class of 2017 have stepped up and contributed a wide variety of services to bring their fundraising to a new level.
Examples of the creative donations made by the students include a pick-up basketball game with varsity players, sax and viola lessons, field hockey and soccer clinics run by the captains, babysitting services, special occasion dress shopping, cookie making and dump runs just to name a few.
The Junior Class Auction is an annual event for the upcoming senior class to raise money to help fund cornerstone class events such as the Junior Boat Cruise, the Senior Banquet and the Senior Prom.
McKenna explains that “a successful auction is very important…it allows for our events to be more affordable and therefore more inclusive and well attended by our class.”
