The Wellesley Council on Aging is an organization with a mission to serve as the primary resource for residents over the age of 60; to empower individuals to reach their goals and to offer comprehensive programs, services, and assistance that optimize their quality of life.
In addition, the COA strives to enable meaningful connections and collaborations that inspire a spirit of community across the generations in Wellesley.
Last week, Hardy Elementary School’s PTO Community Service team, consisting of Karen McAdams, Carrie Chu, Lauren Lin, Linda Krug and Lana Taradash-Faye, led K-5 students and their parents along with their joy, enthusiasm and gaming skills over to the Wellesley Community Center to engage Wellesley’s seniors in an afternoon of playing games.
Bingo, cards, board games and lots of conversation were had with cheers and laughter. The pizza and refreshments, no doubt, trucked over by Hardy’s PTO Community Service team helped with the overall mood and festivities as witnessed by one senior and her kindergarten Bingo companion, who both said, “yum!” Kindergarteners were also very happy to share their juice boxes with COA seniors.
McAdams said, “Hardy students were really well-behaved and really eager to teach seniors games and generally chat.”
Hardy fifth graders made a significant showing running Bingo and sharing fifth grade stories with a few seniors who fondly remembered their fifth grade years in Wellesley.
