The Wellesley Community Children’s Center 37th annual Fun Run and Fun Fair will take place inside the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse in Wellesley College’s Keohane Sports Center on Saturday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Races for children aged 3-12 years old happen throughout the morning on the recently updated college track. Registration is $7. Additional siblings or races are $3 each. All racers receive a runner’s number from Marathon Sports and a participation ribbon.
“Since our children were very young, we have enjoyed participating in the Fun Run,” said Meg Steere, Co-President of WCCC’s Board of Directors. “It is a fantastic event for when you need a place to get out of the house and run around and play, but it’s usually still so cold out! We love the community aspect of the event too, as it draws out friends and neighbors who we sometimes haven’t seen all winter to socialize while the kids play. We look forward to this event as the kickoff to spring every year!”
Children’s games include magnetic fishing and lollipop pulls for the little ones and soccer shoot-outs and archery for older children, among many more. Prizes are given for participation in each activity. One $10 hand stamp allows children to have their faces painted and play as many games as they like as many times as they wish throughout the event.
Children’s running races, games, face painting, book and stuffed animal sales, and the Silent Auction and Raffle are ongoing throughout the morning. This year’s silent auction and raffle items include an autographed Tom Brady Patriot’s jersey, a Mookie Betts autographed baseball, Captain Bill & Sons Whale Watch tickets, admissions to summer camps including Gardengate Academy, Wellesley Theatre Project, Babson Sports Camps, Tenacre Day Camp and Linx summer camps, a season pass to Belkin Family Lookout Farm and a free sandwich every week from the Linden Store.
The Fun Run also hosts an Independent School, Activity and Summer Camp Fair, which gives parents the opportunity to learn about the schools in the area. Representatives from Jackson Walnut Park, Energy Fitness & Gymnastics, and Broadmoor Summer Camp will be there to talk about their programming.
As always, the Fun Run promises a good time for families. All proceeds benefit WCCC programming. WCCC was established in 1971 to provide quality childcare and early learning for working families. At its Early Childhood Program on the Wellesley College Campus and After School sites in the Wellesley Public Schools, WCCC has grown to provide outstanding programs each year for over 400 children ages 3 months through 5th grade.
