On the pleasant afternoon of March 4, the Wellesley Chamber Players performed two amazing piano trios composed by two Viennese composers, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert, in Beveridge Hall, Dana Hall School. Pianist Jayoung Kim, a Dana Hall School faculty member and artistic director and founding member of the Wellesley Chamber Players, was joined by violinist Zenas Hsu and cellist Sasha Scolnik-Brower, both of whom have won international acclaim as classical musicians.
Beethoven’s trio had Mozart-like playfulness, charms and jokes throughout the piece. The second movement, Adagio, had a heartwarming melody; it was later related that there were some audience members with tears in their eyes. Schubert’s trio was challenging for both performers and listeners for its technical difficulty and length. However, the performers gave their hearts and souls, and the audience responded with standing ovations and robust applause.
A reception followed the concert, during which time the performers and the audience met and fraternized.
Wellesley TV recorded the concert; it will soon be available online.
