Now in its fourth year, Art in the Park will take place on Saturday, May 21, in Simons Park from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is accessible to all ages and features different mediums and materials each year.
Wellesley Women Artisans started the free annual event in 2013 with the idea of building community while tapping into Wellesley’s creative side. This year’s project will be a large-scale community collage using leftover industrial materials and donated paper scraps. The goal is to simply make art together and evoke emotion through color, shape and movement. At last year’s “Neighbors Drawing Neighbors” event, some participants said that they hadn’t made a drawing in decades!
All materials are provided at the event and the finished art piece remains on public view for weeks. The event is made possible by the generous support of Wellesley’s Natural Resources Commission, Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club and Wellesley Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
