Walpole will be observing Memorial Day on May 30 at noon at the Walpole Town Common.
There will be a static display of vehicles from the National Guard 1058th Transportation Company for the event. The Walpole High School band will be performing two pre-ceremony songs. There will also be a reading of the names of veterans who have passed away since our last observance.
This year’s guest speaker will be Walpole High School graduate and member of the United States Marine Corps Major Adam Sachetti.
Major Adam Sacchetti is the Inspector-Instructor for Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, Brunswick, Maine. He was Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Following Graduation with honors from Norwich University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Following graduation from the Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines as a Rifle Platoon Commander.
Completing the training program for the 22nd MEU (SOC), he deployed with BLT 1/6 and saw combat action in the Kandahar and Oruzgan Provinces of Afghanistan. He was reassigned as the Bravo Company Weapons Platoon Commander and subsequently deployed as a Rifle and Weapons Platoon Commander and FiST Leader and saw combat action in Fallujah, Iraq.
Following his tour at 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Major Sacchetti Transferred to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, VA and assumed duties as 2nd Platoon Commander, 2nd Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company. He deployed to both Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as well as Naval Station Rota, Spain while serving as the ready FAST Platoon Commander for EUCOM and AFRICOM.
Upon redeployment from EUCOM, Major Sacchetti was reassigned as the Executive Officer, 1st FAST Company and later assigned as the Commanding Officer, Headquarters Company, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment.
Following graduating with Distinction from Expeditionary Warfare School, Major Sacchetti served as a Platoon Commander for a Candidate Platoon at Officer Candidate School as a summer augment. He then returned to Camp Lejeune, NC and assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. He commanded Company F in combat in the Kariz-E-Saydi/Badula Qulp area of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Shortly after redeployment, he served in the 2d Marine Division G-3 in the Current and Future Operations Sections. He was selected for service as the Staff Secretary of the 2d Marine Division, and served the Commanding General, Assistant Division Commander, Chief of Staff, Sergeant Major and Command Master Chief in this capacity from April, 2012 to May, 2013. In May, 2013, Major Sacchetti transferred to Brunswick, Maine and assumed his current duties as the Inspector-Instructor of Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines.
Major Sacchetti’s personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Purple Heart Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon (with gold star in lieu of 2d award).
He is married to Traci Sacchetti and lives in Brunswick, Maine.
The VFW will have free burgers and hot dogs after the observance.
