Tickets are on sale now for the Walpole Children’s Theatre’s winter production of a stage adaptation of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper.”

Showtimes are February 26 at 7 p.m., February 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 4 at 7 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Walpole Footlighters Playhouse, 2 Scout Rd. in East Walpole.

The play is an adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic tale, and tells the story of Edward Tudor, an English prince, and Tom Cantry, a poor begger. When Tudor sees Cantry being mistreated, the prince invites the peasant to dine with him. The two decide to switch clothing for fun.

The fun soon turns serious when the two assume each other’s lives after no one is able to tell them apart. Now, the wealthy diplomat must live out the life of a poor peasant, while the poor peasant must assume the role of a head of state.

The play tells the story of two men from opposite sides of society, rich and privileged, and poor and disadvantaged, who get a taste of what life is like for the other side. The play features dynamic female roles, elaborate staging, and a unique blend of humor and serious drama as the two main characters reflect on their own lives.

“The Prince and the Pauper” was adapted for the stage by James DeVita, and is directed by Laura Barry.

Tickets can be purchased from the Walpole Children’s Theatre website at walpolechildrenstheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at 508-921-0542. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for children under 12 and $8 for seniors.
