The Advent and Christmas season at United Church is a very special time of year. Numerous events occur throughout the month in addition to the Church’s weekly Advent Sunday morning worship services under the theme of “Longing and Belonging.” All are welcome to any of the upcoming events.
On December 11, morning worship at 10:00 a.m. will feature a participatory Christmas Pageant in which the story of the birth of Jesus is told through story, song, and impromptu acting. Also on December 11 at 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to come and sing Christmas carols - both secular and sacred - at a Family-Friendly Carol Sing. Piano and other instruments will provide accompaniment, and lyrics will be provided. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served afterward.
On December 18, Music Sunday, morning worship at 10:00 a.m. will be a joyous celebration of the Christmas story with special musical guests and powerful preaching.
On Tuesday, December 20 at 7:00 p.m. the Church will hold a Blue Christmas Service, acknowledging that for many people, the holiday season is also a time of sadness and grief. Candlelight worship with quiet reflection and a meditative labyrinth walk will offer comfort, healing and hope.
On Christmas Eve, December 24, the Church will hold its Christmas Eve Candlelight Services at 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The 5:00 p.m. service is especially welcoming to families with children, but all are welcome at both services.
Christmas Day, December 25, is on a Sunday this year, and the Church welcomes the opportunity to worship on this most special day. Join the Church for lessons and carols and the good news of Christ’s birth at their 10:00 a.m. worship service.
United Church in Walpole is located at 30 Common Street, next to the Post Office. There is plenty of parking in the church parking lots, with overflow parking available at the neighboring funeral homes. United Church is an open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ in which all individuals and families are welcomed and affirmed.
