Bird Park was aglow with jack-o’-lanterns last Saturday night at the annual Pumpkins in the Park event.
Hundreds of local families came out to participate in the free, kid-friendly fall celebration that featured face painting, games, storytelling, cider, donuts, and, of course, pumpkins.
The festivities began at 5 p.m. with a costume parade, followed by a storyteller at 6 p.m., and winners announced at 7 p.m. The pumpkins were displayed according to theme at stations along the main field area where they were judged based on criteria including creativity and originality.
Pumpkins in the Park is sponsored by the Friends of Francis William Bird Park. Founded in 1995, the group has made many park improvements such as the new playground, new walkways, and, most recently, they raised $1,500 to purchase four new basketball hoops for the freshly paved courts.
Their next event is Fall Clean Up on November 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. All are welcome to chip in sprucing up the park. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
The Friends of Bird Park meet at 7:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole.
