Art can tell a story, no matter what form of art a piece speaks, it will always entrance the viewer into its reality. As for artists, anyone can be an artist that upholds the power of a pen and paper or an easel and paint. Typically, these artists have developed strategic methods to their masterpieces and the most common habits are taught in schools today. Although there is one form of painting that isn’t most commonly taught, that is reverse painting.
Reverse painting dates back centuries ago, and its most commonly used as reverse glass painting. Flipping the entire typical painting strategies out of order and simply reversing the order. Putting intricate details first and polishing off the masterpiece with a dark luring background, only to reveal its true beauty of art at the very end when you flip the glass over.
The Walpole Public Library hosted a reverse painting session for young adults and families on Friday, July 21st. As the group began heading in, they were greeted by a display of goodie bags that were awaiting their arrival. Inside each bag were the contents needed to reverse paint for the day's activity, the guests were encouraged to choose one out of three designs to paint.
With a wild tiger, a delicate lotus flower, and a take on the famous Great Wave painting, the young artists had a variety of designs to choose from. The class soon began as one of the young adult librarians introduced the program’s video from the Pop-Up Art School. Following, they played a step-by-step video that brought the young artists along on their masterpieces.
The results were magnificent, and each artist was proud of their masterpiece, but most importantly, their paintings told the story of their memory at the library that Friday afternoon and will always bring fond memories.
