Girl Scouts host BINGO at COA

Although BINGO is a weekly event at the Walpole COA, last Friday seniors welcomed new BINGO callers on Friday afternoon; Cassie and Gini from Girl Scout Troop 62389 of Walpole.
While the Girl Scouts set up for the game, the seniors enjoyed conversations over coffee and desserts.

Once the girls had finished setting up, Gini worked to roll the BINGO balls out of the cage, while Cassie called the numbers for the cards. Seniors helped the girls learn how to call the numbers and taught them how to check the boards after someone had called out BINGO.
The seniors played different types of BINGO pattern games, which taught the two girls how to call for these various types of patterned games.

After a senior had won the round, the children of COA staff, who were in attendance, volunteered to pass out the prizes to the seniors. The seniors taught the girls to tell everyone to clear their board after each round and how to announce which type of pattern they were going to play in the following round.

This event is a part of a new initiative, created by the Walpole COA. “We’re trying a new initiative to have more intergenerational programs… it’s always fun to bring these two groups together because the kids are in school,” Kerri McManama, COA director, shared. The event was possible last Friday, due to the fact that Walpole Public Schools had a half a day. The COA staff hopes to hold more intergenerational events like this in the future, as both groups benefit from spending time among one another.

The seniors enjoyed having the girls come to the event and the Girl Scouts learned a lot about conducting a game of BINGO.
