Boyden Girl Scouts double in size

Last year the Boyden School Daisy Girl Scout Troop #62245 was formed with 14 girls from Kindergarten and first grade. With three leaders, the troop met twice a month and earned all of the Daisy Petals and then some.

This year the group has doubled. Four girls “flew up” to Brownie Troop #82078. When girls from K-3rd grade were invited, the troops grew to 32 girls with six adult leaders and a Cadet helper. The Girl Scouts continue to meet twice a month, but now meet at the South Walpole United Methodist Church which provides ample space for these energetic girls.

Both troops begin their meetings together with an opening ceremony and singing. The troops then divide to work on their own Brownie and Daisy journeys and badges. The girls gather again at the end of the meeting in one big friendship circle to sing "Taps," or "Make New Friends" and pass the friendship squeeze.

At the December 6 meeting, the Brownie Troop earned the Meet My Customers badge to prepare for selling cookies this month. The Daisy Troop welcomed special guests from the FFA organization leadership program at Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole. These students gave a fantastic interactive presentation to the Daisies about animal care and animal safety. The students did a wonderful job helping the Daisies further along their animal journey that the girls are embarking on this year. During this journey, the girls will be learning all about various types of animals across the world, how to take care of animals and keep them safe, and also ways to help animals in the community.
