While many are spending their summer at work, the beach, or even on vacation, Walpole resident Doug Stewart is spending his summer a little differently. Stewart, a long time circus performer, has just opened Cirque Us!, his new circus collective, and embarked on their first ever summer tour. They will be visiting locations all over the northeast from Maine to Pennsylvania.
After a year of preparation, Stewart has hit the road with seven other talented performers from across the country. The show, “One Man’s Trash: A Repurposed Circus,” is a 90-minute circus extravaganza featuring high flying aerialists, quirky clowns, extraordinary acrobats and more.
“When I was ten years old, I saw my first circus and I have been dreaming of performing in my own ever since.” Stewart continued “It’s amazing to see all of the hard work that has paid off over the last year, I am lucky to be touring with a hard-working and passionate group that is willing to bend over backwards to give the audience a spectacular circus show.”
Reflecting on the magic of his preferred form of expression, Stewart told Hometown Weekly: “Circus is a very pure art form because you are not playing a character, you are doing what you love and creating a relationship with the audience.”
The show has already stopped in Vermont, Cape Cod, and the Berkshires, performing to sold-out audiences across the region. The tour recently stopped in Walpole to perform tidbits of the show for audiences at New Pond Village. The group of diverse artists in now heading to New York and Philadelphia for a series of performances before returning to Massachusetts for stops in Arlington and Northampton July 29-31.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance. Group ticket prices are also available, for inquiries contact [email protected]. Join Cirque Us! for a fun-filled performance and an opportunity to support the arts. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.thecirqueus.com.
