Entering off the heels of their first defeat of the season to Hopkinton (3-1) on Monday, the Westwood High School varsity girls soccer team traveled to Norton on Wednesday afternoon looking to rebound.
Behind a hat trick by senior captain and midfielder Sofia Roberts, along with a pair of goals by junior wing Kella McGrail, the Wolverines (5-1-1, 4-1-1) rolled to a 5-1 victory.
Roberts buried a free kick just five minutes in to get the scoring started for Westwood. Maddi Peck nearly doubled the lead moments later on a right-legged boot from about 15 yards out, but was turned aside by Norton goalie Kaylin Hebert.
Still 1-0 early in the second half, McGrail put home a rebound off an initial shot by Peck to make it a 2-0 game with 36:12 to play. Just 8:10 later, McGrail struck again after receiving a feed from Peck on a break and burying a shot up high to make it 3-0.
Less than a minute following the second goal by McGrail, Norton got on the board, thanks to a goal off a free kick by Mackenzie Dennett to draw within two.
Still ahead by two with 3:58 to play, Roberts buried a shot up high from the right side of the box to hammer the nail into the coffin. Peck was hauled down in the box during stoppage time, allowing a free-kick opportunity for Roberts with the chance to complete the hat trick and add some insurance. Roberts buried her PK try into the bottom left corner of the net to push the lead to four and secure the Wolverines a 5-1 victory.
