On Thursday, August 3, at Westwood High School, parents and swimmers packed into the steaming pool area to watch the underdog Westwood Waves nearly vanquish the Needham Sharks in an excellent swim meet.
The race was a closely contested affair from the start, with neither team gaining a clear advantage over the other throughout the match’s entirety. Swimmers from both Westwood and Needham lined the poolside area, yelling loud encouragement to their fellow teammates. Although the Sharks came out victoriously in the end, the Waves can be proud of an excellent performance against a powerful opponent.
Overall, it was a great performance from Westwood, who managed to compete with a team that has been widely regarded by local swim pundits as one with great potential for the future after their dominance at the Ehrlich Mile Swim in Natick last Friday.
“It was a great meet,” said head coach Kara Murphy. “Our team really showed the hard work they’ve been putting in during practice.”
