The Wellesley girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams each had a relay team compete at the New Balance Nationals from March 11-13.
The girls’ 4x200 relay team of junior Isabelle Winkelman, sophomore Rachel Parker, freshman Anna Jordahl-Henry and senior Ally Isley set a school record by running the event in 1:43.49, which was the fourth fastest time in Massachusetts history.
The boys’ 4x1-mile team of senior Matt D’Anieri, junior Ben Matejka, junior Sam Gilman and senior Thomas D’Anieri placed 10th in their event, finishing in 17:51.29, which set a new Massachusetts record. The previous record of 18:00.06 was held by Lowell.
“I don’t think they were intimidated because they had been in a bunch of big races in the past and are used to good competition,” said Wellesley boys’ head coach Larry Corda. “The Bay State Conference is one of the best in the state and they compete against some really great runners every week.
“I have a great bunch of guys on this team that worked extremely hard to get where they are. They have set lofty goals and continue to strive to obtain them. I’m proud of all my guys and I’m looking forward to a great outdoor season.”
