The Walpole High School girls varsity soccer team hosted Milton on Monday afternoon for their annual senior night.
Coming off a bye week, Walpole's last game was on October 22, a 1-1 tie at Braintree. Any questions as to whether the time off would produce any rust for the Walpole girls were answered on Monday: a resounding "no."
Behind a two-goal performance by senior Emily DeSimone, Walpole cruised to a dominant 6-0 victory. Fellow senior Sophie McCarthy also found the back of the net. Walpole's other goals on the night came from juniors Sophie St. George and Jordan Larkin, as well as sophomore Brooke Walonis.
DeSimone opened the scoring midway through the first quarter by putting home a rebound on a loose ball at the net-mouth to give Walpole a 1-0 lead. McCarthy deposited home a goal on a breakaway moments later as Walpole took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
DeSimone's second of the night, this time off a free kick, gave Walpole a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter. Walpole took their three-goal lead into halftime.
St. George and Larkin put home back-to-back goals midway through the third quarter to seal the deal, putting Walpole ahead by five at the end of three. Walonis added some insurance early in the fourth quarter with a goal off a fast break as Walpole came away with the 6-0 victory.
