The Medfield Pee Wee AAA team took home the Massachusetts state championship on Sunday at the Mike Eruzione Center in Winthrop. The team won all five of their games against other top teams in the state in the team’s penultimate tournament of the season, featuring the winners of the 10 Massachusetts district championships.

Medfield won the District 3 championship by advancing through the Mass. Hockey State Playdowns, which began back in December. Wins over tough district competition, including teams from Weymouth and Braintree, led to Medfield facing and beating Canton in the District 3 final on Feb. 10 at Norfolk Arena.

In the state championship, Medfield secured victories over Westfield, Melrose and Winthrop in round-robin play to advance to the semifinals on Sunday.

Goals from Slater Franks, Ryan Dolan, and Jack Collins propelled Medfield to victory over a tough Dorchester team, leading the team to a finals rematch against Westfield, who had advanced through a wild card birth.

Center James Wilder potted two second period goals to lead Medfield to a 2-0 championship game victory.

The Medfield Pee Wees also kept the team’s undefeated season alive, running the team’s overall record to 44-0-1. The team continues play this weekend with its sight set on capping the season with a Valley League Championship trophy.
