The first season of the newly formed Medfield-Ashland ski team wrapped up last week when two of its skiers, Ashland’s Donnie Jones and Julian Sherr, competed in the state championship meet at Wachusett Mountain.
Jones, a sophomore, finished tied for 27th overall in the giant slalom with a time of 57.69, while Sherr, a junior co-captain, finished the GS in 93rd (out of 146 racers) with a time of 1:02.59. Jones also took 38th in the slalom in a time of 41.42.
“I am very proud of the team as a whole,” said head coach Nancy Schlussel. “We really pulled together and built bonds for years to come.”
Schlussel noted that the team of 12 racers had only one senior, so the young skiers will return with a lot of potential for next year.
She said, “We started this team late in the season this year. Next year we will have an even stronger team.”
