After transferring to Buckingham Browne & Nichols from Medfield High School and repeating a year following the 2015-2016 academic year, Medfield native Maya Mangiafico has put together an exceptional athletic career.
Committed to Brown to play hockey, Mangiafico was named senior captain of the BB&N varsity girls soccer team and helped the Knights to their first New England Class A championship since 1996 on November 17. Along with Mangiafico, the Knights also had another Medfield native contribute to their championship soccer run in freshman Abigail Giordano. BB&N defeated Miss Porters, 1-0, at Deerfield Academy in the tournament championship game.
Off the pitch and on the ice, Mangiafico has also excelled. Back in April, the Medfield native helped the Boston Jr. Eagles U-19 Tier-1 team to a national championship at the USA Hockey Nationals in Irvine, California. Mangiafico, who assisted on the game’s opening goal, helped the Eagles to a 2-1 victory against Minnesota powerhouse Shattuck St. Mary’s in the championship game.
Set to graduate this spring, Mangiafico will look to keep up the athletic excellence this winter before heading off to Brown next fall.
