Despite entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed, Medfield High School boys hockey nearly captured the Division II South title last season, winning their way to the sectional finals before falling to No. 3 Plymouth, 6-3.
With last season’s tough ending behind them, the Warriors enter 2018-2019 ready to compete for the TVL and Division II South titles and build off of their postseason success a season ago.
Leading Medfield into battle are a trio of senior co-captains: forward Shawn MacTaviah, forward Mike Tyer, and defenseman Jack Lyons.
“Based on talking with Jack, Mike, and the rest of our teammates, our goal is really is to win and to take it a step farther than last season and win it,” said MacTavish on his team’s general goals for the season.
MacTavish also says that last season served as a significant learning experience for he and his teammates. However, the senior co-captain emphasizes that before Medfield can even begin to think about postseason play, they must take care of business in the regular season and gel as a unit.
“Last year’s run was a great learning experience for all the guys who were a part of it,” said MacTavish. “This year, we have a lot of new players and we have to make sure that players that are new to feel part of the team in order to ensure that we play as well as we possibly can. Once things start to get going, we just need to work hard and play our game, and I think we can be a very good team this year.”
Medfield will open up TVL play on December 15 against Holliston in Franklin.
