Medfield High School competed in the freshman/sophomore meet on a rain-soaked track on Saturday in Norwell, and while the weather certainly was not ideal, it did not dampen the competitive nature of the event, as the Warriors ran wild and returned home after achieving tremendous success.
John McNeil finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 20’5,” while also winning the high jump and placing fourth in the 100-meter.
The Medfield 4x800 relay team, consisting of Riley Drometer, Bree Morgan, Anna Terry, and Jordan Wilson, also placed first in their event, qualifying for the Divisional Meet. The foursome finished with an impressive time of 10:27. Morgan also ran a season best time of 12:44 in the two-mile while Wilson finished fourth in the one-mile with a personal record time of 5:26. Drometer also placed third in the 400-meter with a time of 62:21.
Ryan Eng placed second in the 110-meter hurdle and fifth in the 100-meter, while also jumping 18’6” in the long jump.
Kaitlyn Whelan ran a personal record time of 2:33.22 in the 800-meter and took home sixth place.
Jaimee Hirschfeld anchored the 4x100 team along with Jill Diliberto, Brenna Skerry and Helen Moniz. Skerry cleared 4'5" in the high jump, adding yet another personal record to Medfield’s afternoon. Hirschfeld also captured fourth place in the 100-meter with a time of 13.20 and placed second in the long jump with a distance of a 17'0.”
Madison Colleran ran an 18.52 in the 100-meter hurdles while Amanda Thompson and Catie O'Connell both put up season best performances in the discus. O’Connell also threw her best javelin of the season. Last but certainly not least, Claire McNulty threw the best in the discus for the Warrior throwing squad. On the boys side, Bryan Qian had a nice meet with an 89'10" in the discus to go along with excellent results in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Connor Howells and Drew Conde ran extremely well in the 400-meter and then joined Sam Godshall and Dylan Hogan in the 4x400 relay. Godshall also competed in the 200 while Hogan and Matt Morgan ran impressive time in the one-mile race.
Head coach Kevin Murphy praised his group of freshman and sophomore runners following the race, and insisted that Medfield track and field holds a strong future with this group heading towards their prime high school years.
“Everyone who competed did well,” said Murphy. “These athletes show that the future is bright for Medfield track and field.”
