The warm weather means that the spring sports season has finally returned to Dover-Sherborn Regional High School, and the return of spring season also means the return of DS’s outstanding boys and girls track program. The running Raiders returned to the track for the first time in 2017 on Friday for their head-to-head meet against TVL rival Westwood.
Despite a hard fought effort, the Raider boys fell to the Wolverines to begin their 2017 campaign, the program’s first loss in two seasons. The girls also fell in a heartbreaker, but fought until the bitter end and forced the match to come down to the final relay event, which Westwood was able to pull out by the skin of their teeth.
“We definitely gave Westwood a scare,” said DS head coach Maura Bennett. “Our team looks very strong and we are excited for our next meet.”
PJ Doyle qualified for the D5 state meet for his performance in the javelin, while Spencer Robbins qualified in the long jump. Charlotte Kinchla was the long lady-Raider to qualify for the D5 tournament with her incredible performance in the two-mile race.
Doyle (javelin), Robbins (long jump), Sam Hartley (javelin), and Owen Searle (800) all qualified for the Coach’s Invitational Meet. On the girls side, Sophia Cutler (discus), Rachel Dasilva (100), Emma Lesser (100 HH), Sydney McLaughlin (800), and Charlotte Kinchia (two-mile) all qualified for the Coach’s Invitational as well.
Congratulations to all the Raider runners for their State and Coach’s Invitational qualifications and best of luck the rest of the season.
