The Dover-Sherborn High School varsity girls lacrosse team capped off an historic 2021 season with the program's first-ever Division II state championship.
Originally scheduled to be played on Thursday at Littleton High School, the game was pushed to Friday due to severe thunderstorms. The extra wait time allowed for one final practice on Thursday evening before the Raiders took care of business, winning by a final of 12-10.
On Tuesday, the DS girls hosted North sectional champ Newburyport in the state semifinals. With the game 10-6 in favor of the Raiders at halftime, Hope Shue took over in the second half for DS with three straight goals to open the third quarter, part of a seven-goal night for the senior captain.
Along with Shue's big performance, the Raiders also saw steady offensive production from Mags Rieper (two goals, three assists), Amelia Novitch (two goals, two assists), Annie Parizeau (two goals, two assists), Kate Mastrobuono (two goals, four assists) and Coco Hauck (one goal, two assists). DS finished the game on a 6-2 run to advance to Friday's state title bout with a 16-8 win.
On Friday, it was Mastrobuono's turn to lead the DS offense as the senior fired home six goals to help the Raiders erase an early 4-1 deficit en route to the 12-10 title-clinching victory.
