The boys and girls games of lacrosse certainly differ in rules and styles of play. In Dover-Sherborn, however, there is a simple common denominator: championships.
For years, boys lacrosse has been the dominant story of the spring months at Dover-Sherborn High School. Girls lacrosse has made several runs deep into the MIAA playoffs, but without a state championship to show for their efforts; boys lacrosse has soaked up all the headlines.
In 2021, the DS boys lacrosse team captured their second straight Division III state championship and the program's sixth in 10 years.
But while the DS boys were busy continuing their reign of dominance, the DS girls stepped up and wrote their own story. A magical run through the Division II playoffs by the Raiders was capped with a 12-10 victory over Bromfield in the state championship game. The win not only earned DS their first-ever state championship in girls lacrosse, but it also marked the first time that both the boys and girls lacrosse teams at any Tri-Valley League school secured state titles in the same season.
After accomplishing a feat like that, its hard not to call Dover-Sherborn the epicenter of high school lacrosse in the state of Massachusetts.
"It means so much, especially with such a strong boys program throughout the years," said Dover-Sherborn senior Kate Mastrobuono on her team's state championship win. "We’ve been waiting for this moment, after COVID, and with our senior class having a disrupted schedule. It’s just so amazing to finish the year like this."
