In just the third year of the program, the Dover-Sherborn girls’ indoor track program has been through its share of struggles.
But they say the third time is a charm, and in this case that just might’ve meant the third season, as the Raiders not only won a meet for the first time in the program’s history, but they also won a second meet as well.
“The girls have been amazing,” coach Maura Bennett said. “They are all dedicated and come to all of the practices and meets. They run whatever event is needed to help the team. They are a tight knit group that have really worked hard together.”
There are three captains who provide leadership for this year’s Raiders: Caroline Bennett (mile, 2-mile and 4x800 relay), Anoush Gigarjian (shot put, 55m hurdles and 55m dash) and Brooke Daly (mile and 2-mile).
With just 17 girls on the team, there are many key contributors, including Carly Giachetti (600, 1000, mile and 4x800 relay), Lauren Kinchla (100, 600 and 4x800 relay), freshman Priscilla Tso (the team’s top point scorer who competes in the 55m and 300m), Emma Lesser (55m hurdles and high jump), Sophie Van Riet (mile and 4x800 relay), Jackie Pope (1000, mile and 2-mile) and Olivia Maier (300 and 4x400 relay).
Giachetti qualified for the Coaches Invitational in the 1000 that will be held this Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. Tso also qualified for the Coaches Invitational in the 55m.
Van Riet has qualified for states in the 1000, while the foursome of Van Riet, Kinchla, Bennett and Giachetti have qualified for states in the 4x800m relay.
“The team will continue to improve,” Bennett said. “We get better each year. It is a hard working group… We do not have any seniors on the team so we will be stronger next year as we are not losing any athletes.”
Of particular note is that the TVL Meet will be held on February 6, and the Raiders are looking forward to that, as well as the D5 states.
