Bike Moms take on Needham

In the heat of the summer, the streets of Needham are a buzz. Whether you are cycling, running, or casually driving to the Needham Center to picnic with friends, Needham is the perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful day. Throughout the hustle and bustle of the streets, our community is gathering together to try out new things. Local Needham resident, Beth Tuck, casually rode her bike around town, seeing many riding along the bike paths enjoying the summer air. After chatting with another casual cyclist Tuck thought of the perfect idea; forming a casual cycling group for Needham moms, and that’s when Needham Bike Moms was formed.

Kicking off their first event on Wednesday, June 28th, Tuck and ten other cyclists gathered together on the town common to take on a stroll around the streets and to grab a bite of food together afterward, but most importantly, to have some fun. Tuck and the other women introduced themselves and chatted, getting to know one another. Many say it was a great way to get to know more of the community in Needham.

“I love biking in general; I wanted to meet like-minded people. Having other nice moms in the area to go biking with is perfect. There was another woman I had met; we were chatting outside a UPS one day, and we were admiring our bikes. We started talking and coming up with the idea, and we thought, why not give it a try? Over the years, we have collected a group of friends who were interested. We can see every other week as we get the ball rolling,” said Tuck.

Towards the end of their extravaganza around town, the clouds began to roll in, drizzling raindrops onto the street. Soon after, the group rolled into a local restaurant along the common, where they met some others to join in on the fun.

“Although we can see this group doing family events too, I believe that in our community, moms just want to meet other moms and get together. It doesn’t matter if you have young kids or older; everyone is welcome. People who want to ride can, and if there is anyone who doesn’t, we encourage everyone to join afterward to socialize,” said Tuck.

“If you like to bike or are interested, please come out and join; it’s casual and fun. I think we would all like to live in a community where we are all happy sharing the road between the bikers, walkers, and those driving, keeping everyone safe, and having a good time,” said Tuck.
