On Friday, Feb. 5, the Town of Needham and Beth Israel Deaconess - Needham (BID-Needham) will join forces to raise awareness about heart disease and strokes by wearing red.
Needham will honor Go Red for Women Day, a program of the American Heart Association, which draws attention to the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer among women in America, but that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable, according to statistics from the Heart Association website, www.goredforwomen.org.
BID-Needham and the Town of Needham want you to show your support by posting a photo of yourself wearing red to www.Facebook.com/bidneedham and to use the hashtags #NeedhamGoes Red and #GoRedForWomen.
Also, the Cardiovascular Institute at BID-Needham will be providing free pedometers and information about how walking can help heart health. Contact Alyssa Kence at akence@bidneedham.org or 781-453-5460 to receive the pedometer and the literature.
Some of the tips that were provided for having a healthy heart are to eat healthy, to exercise, and to regularly see your doctor for blood pressure and cholesterol checks.
