The Snow Queen visits NFPL

Little ones and their families were in for a thrilling and chilly treat late last month as the Snow Queen traveled to the Needham Free Public Library (NFPL). As soon as the children entered the Community Room, their faces lit up with pure joy, absolutely in awe of her.

Dressed in a beautiful snowy silver dress, and with a snowflake wand in hand, the Snow Queen welcomed all the children and thanked them for coming. Before officially starting her event, she took a couple of questions from the little ones. One little boy asked “Are you a real life Snow Queen?,” in which she replied,”Why of course I am! I come from a far away land that is always covered in snow.”

While there is currently no snow on the ground here in Needham, she assured us that it is coming soon since there is always snow in New England. She then went on to explain where exactly she comes from. “Where I live,” she stated, “it is known as the crown of the Earth. There is snow year round, some places on the ground are even frozen completely over. Any guesses on where I am from? The Arctic! I live there with my daughter and my son, who are both known as prince and princess of our region. The Arctic is actually named after a constellation found in the stars, and I too was named after a star constellation. While I am known as the Snow Queen, my real name is Aurora Borealis Frost. This constellation appears in the Northern Sky right above the Arctic circle.”

She then explained how her son, Jack Frost, is responsible for the icicles that we see on our window when it gets really cold outside. The Snow Queen followed up this fact by telling an old folk tale story about how rabbits received their long ears and short little tails. She mentioned how this story always makes her think of her son and his incredible personality.

When she was not telling stories, the Snow Queen would recite different snow-related poems and have the children help her along the way. All of the little ones were in a trance as she would spin around and throw glitter in the air throughout some of the poems. The Snow Queen asked little ones what their favorite activity was to do in the snow. There were an abundance of different answers, such as making snow forts, snow tunnels, snow angels, snowballs, snowmen, sledding and even shoveling.

All in attendance of the Snow Queen had an amazing time overall and made the young guests excited about the upcoming snow headed our way. Events like these happen year round at the NFPL. For more information, please visit their website at www.needhamlibrary.org
