Lisa Vergara, founder of Stortytime Crafts, presented fire fighter Nick Dabrowski at the Needham Fire Department - Local 1706 with a children's chair and matching book, "The Fire Engine Book," to share with children visiting the fire station at 88 Chestnut Street.
Vergara's goal is to create beautiful furniture pieces that encourage reading for young children while repurposing old furniture and used books. Lisa's mission is to "reduce-reuse-recycle." Every piece of furniture requires collecting 3-4 copies of a particular book.
"Getting children interested in reading by experiencing the colors, shapes, pictures and words that together make a story is very exciting," says Lisa. "After searching at local thrift stores for months and collecting enough copies of 'The Fire Engine Book,' I knew I wanted to donate the chair to the Needham Fire Department so children in the Needham community could enjoy it."
