The Needham Exchange Club has recognized Steven Qie from Needham High School as its Youth of the Month. Steven is an outstanding student and has also been involved in broad-based community service that has won him a national President’s Volunteer Service Award in each of the last three years. He also earned an “Outstanding Teacher” Award as a volunteer at the Chinese Language School in Newton.
Steven helped develop an academic support program for elementary and middle school students, raised funds for a rural elementary school in China, and started a GoFundMe page to buy emergency alarms for vulnerable seniors in Boston’s Chinatown. He has volunteered at Park and Rec and been active at several clubs at NHS, particularly serving as co-president of the Rubik’s Cube Club, where he set a personal record of 8 seconds for solving a Rubik’s Cube puzzle.
The Needham Exchange Club provides recognition to four very accomplished graduating high school seniors through its Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year programs. Additionally, its scholarship program provides recognition and financial assistance for graduating seniors. Of these, one will be chosen as the Club’s Youth of the Year, and go on to compete in the New England District Youth of the Year program (the winner of which will represent the District in the National Exchange Club’s National Youth of the Year competition).
