You could tell by the parking lot that something was going on last week at the Needham Free Public Library (NFPL); though mid-day on a Wednesday seemed like an odd time for it. Until you saw the children, that is. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers alike all gathered in the community room for a performance by popular children’s musician Stacey Peasley, and, as usual, she did not disappoint!
Colorful scarves were passed around to any child that wanted one to enhance their dancing, and Peasley played songs about butterflies and dragons for them to flap and twirl to. Though she admitted to having some minor voice issues that day which caused her to spend the first half of her set playing songs by other artists rather than performing her own, she did pick up her guitar to play some favorites such as “Dinosaur” and “Rocket-ship”.
Ms. Peasley has been performing for over 30 years, with the last 10 being devoted to children and families. In addition to performing at libraries, schools, and day care centers, she offers music classes and concerts at larger venues and festivals as well. Recently, in an effort to give back to the community, she began a collaboration with Coco Tree Kids. This nonprofit organization provides new underwear to at-risk youth in Massachusetts, and Peasley is bringing a bin with her to all of her shows to collect donations from anyone wishing to contribute a new package of underwear to the cause.
NFPL is home to many wonderful events like this one. Find them all on their website, needhamlibrary.org. For anyone interested in checking out Stacey Peasley, she’ll be back for another performance on Wednesday, June 28th from 10-10:45am.
