This summer, Pollard Middle School hosted its third annual Launching Scholars camp. Over 20 students came to Pollard from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. to develop math skills and focus in character development.
Launching Scholars, a program founded on the principles of The Calculus Project, offers a one-week free summer program, as well as after-school support every week. During this time Pollard’s middle school students were provided engaging, advanced work to transform and enhance the academics offered to them. Pollard staff has been working in collaboration with high school teachers to ensure alignment and advanced work, which the schools expect will “launch” these students into advanced work in the high school and beyond. Pollard’s goal, ultimately, is to provide students with an opportunity to become scholars in math and other curricular areas and to improve advocacy, skills, and confidence.
