On Sunday, September 16, Needham local Howard Needleman will be peddling through the city of Boston in this year's Hub on Wheels, a citywide bike ride that benefits the Boston Children's Hospital and sponsored by Education First.
Howard is the top fundraiser for the third consecutive year, having raised over $5,300 to date this year for the pediatric cancer research center at the hospital. He is reminded of his inspiration to ride as a Hope Rider every day, as he has worked in the Department of Dentistry in Boston Children's Hospital since 1971.
"I have always enjoyed bike riding, but after my late wife passed away in 1999 at the age of 50 from cancer, I decided to become a serious biker," Howard explains. "These donations for my ride give hope to the families and children suffering from his horrific disease."
"Boston Children’s researchers don’t just improve cancer treatment—they introduce new chapters in cancer medicine," wrote Needleman in his fundraising statement. "Your donation will help fuel this critical research aimed at improving and saving the lives of children with cancer, many of whom I've cared for over these past 46 years."
