This year, four hockey players have been selected from Needham High School to participate in the Shriners Hockey Classic: Trent Kamke, Lexi Schmalz, Brooke Reilly, and Tom Chmielewski. These players have been chosen not only because they are great hockey players, but also because they are role models in the community. This is an opportunity for them to give back to all the less fortunate people who may never have had the chance to play a sport in high school or college because of medical issues.
Shriners Hockey Classic is a High School All-Star Hockey game sponsored by the Aleppo Shriners and the Massachusetts High School Hockey Coaches Association. The game features the best high school senior boys and girls from across Massachusetts. All proceeds benefit The Shriners Hospital for Children (www.shrinershospitalboston.org). Shriners Hospital for Children is dedicated to improving the lives of children. They provide medical care to children up to the age of 18. Specialty areas include orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate.
The hockey game will be held on Sunday, March 31, at the Canton Ice House. The girls game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the boys game at 4 p.m. All proceeds raised from the event go to the Shriners Hospital for children. Those interested in purchasing a ticket to the game may contact one of the players or call (978-657-4242, x220).
Any donations are welcome and will help the less fortunate children. Tax deductible checks may be made payable to: Shriners All-Star Hockey Classic, 99 Fordham Rd, Wilmington, MA 01887.
When making a donation, individuals are asked to designate which player they will sponsor.
