On Saturday, Needham High robotics team T-10 (T minus 10) took on 32 other teams from across the state at Natick High in the Massachusetts FTC State Robotics Competition. T-10 earned the Connect Award, which means that it is one of seven teams to be moving on to the Super East Regional in Scranton, Pa.
The regional competition will take place from March 18-20 with 72 teams competing to claim a spot at the FTC World Competition being held in St. Louis, Mo. in April.
The Connect Award is given out to teams as part of a judged portion of the competition to determine the team that “connects with their local STEM community.”
According to the FTC website, “The team that wins the Connect Award aggressively seeks engineers and explores the opportunities available in the world of engineering, science, and technology. This team has a clear business or strategic plan and has identified steps to achieve their goals.”
Some of the criteria for the Connect Award includes acting professionally and gracious with everyone the team meets at the competition, a submitted engineering notebook that contains a business plan including goals, timetables, and outreach, and clear examples of developing connections with the STEM community.
T-10 will travel to the University of Scranton and is ready to take on teams from Maine to Virginia. For more information, visit www.ftceast.org/home.
