The voters of Needham took to the polls on Super Tuesday to voice their opinions for who should be the presidential nominee for the Republicans and Democrats heading into this fall’s national election.

With more than 7,500 voters casting ballots, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton beat Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, 4,941-2,639.

Statewide, Clinton also won although by a smaller percentage than in Needham. Across Massachusetts, Clinton won 50.1 percent of the vote, while Sanders won 48.7 percent.

Among the more than 3,500 Republican voters that cast a ballot in Needham, Ohio governor John Kasich received the most votes with 1,198, narrowly beating out Donald Trump, who received 1,114. Florida senator Marco Rubio received 981 votes and Texas senator Ted Cruz received 239.

Trump was the winner statewide. The businessman received 49.3 percent of the votes in Massachusetts with a sizable edge over Kasich and Rubio, who each received eight percent. Cruz finished in fourth with four percent.

Heading out of Super Tuesday, Trump and Clinton remain the front-runners for their party’s nomination, although there are still a number of delegates still left up for grabs ahead of the nominating conventions.
