The Needham High Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) is hosting a Parent Conference on Saturday, Jan. 23 (with a snow date of Jan. 30) in the school’s library. The event will run from 7:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. and the cost is $10, which includes the price of lunch.
The conference will cover important tips and skills for dealing with issues specific to high school-aged students. The announcement from the PTC read, “Share your concerns and ideas with other high school parents. Stay ahead of the game and parent your teen with knowledge and confidence!”
The keynote address, “Mindful Management of High School Stress,” will be given by Dr. Christopher Willard, a clinical psychologist and consultant who specializes in adolescents and young adults. Dr. Willard teaches at Harvard Medical School and is the author of “Growing Up Mindful.”
The announcement continued, “Dr. Willard will present the research and importance of psychological as well as academic preparation for managing stress in high school, college and beyond through mindfulness and related practices.”
In addition to the keynote address, parents will also be able to choose three workshops with topics that range from learning about substance abuse prevention to the transition from high school to college for special education students to a student panel explaining high school as seen from the students’ perspectives.
