On Saturday, April 2, residents of Needham and surrounding towns will gather in the Needham High cafeteria to create a mock warehouse for the day to organize, sort and pack donations to benefit Cradles to Crayons.
This will be the eighth annual Needham Gives Back event that, according to a press release, “highlights the nature of the day – giving back some of what we have, to families who are not as lucky!”
Last year, residents filled a 26-foot moving truck, and kept more than 150 volunteers busy sorting through donations, cleaning toys, and packing everything to be delivered to the C2C warehouse in Brighton.
The event is designed for two major goals. First, to collect gently used clothes, toys, books, coats, and other essentials for kids up to age14 and also to provide a tangible volunteer opportunity that families can do together to learn the value of giving back and putting in some time for a good cause.
Last year, Cradles to Crayons provided needed essentials for more than 50,000 children in the Greater Boston area and the need is growing. The press release from organizers continued, “We are so fortunate here in Needham to have so many blessings, and this kind of event makes everyone feel good about doing something to help!”
Volunteers are needed as well as donations of gently used clothes and other kids’ essentials. Donations can be dropped off at the Needham High cafeteria on April 2 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. The event runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sign up to volunteer at [email protected].
