On Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3, more than thirty Gorse Mill Studios artists will open their doors to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the 9th annual Holiday Open Studios and art sale, in conjunction with an exhibition of Needham artist N.C. Wyeth. At this free event at 31 Thorpe Road in Needham, visitors can meet the artists, tour their studios and browse and purchase a wide range of original art in an array of media and styles; from ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture to jewelry, textiles, glass, mosaics, photography, illustration, 3D animation and more. Additionally, a wine tasting and free food samples will enhance the event, as will an opportunity to view and purchase the pottery and cookbooks of celebrity chef Dave Becker.

In the gallery will be an art history and prints exhibition, in partnership with the Needham History Center & Museum (formerly the Needham Historical Society). Photographs and prints of Wyeth’s work will feature people and places connected with Needham. On Friday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m., Gloria Greis, PhD, the Executive Director of the Needham History Center & Museum, will give a presentation about N.C Wyeth’s work and how images of Needham, places in town, and people he knew recur throughout his paintings, even when the subjects were not overtly related to Needham. Several artists will open their studios on Friday night as well.

New artists in the building will show their work, as well - among them silk painter Nicole Donson, who paints on silk with colorfast dyes and creates scarves and clothing. During the event, several artists will do demonstrations of their process, such as wheel thrown pottery and mosaics, and children can paint a sun catcher on silk with fabric paints in Nicole Donson’s studio 209.

Gorse Mill is a former textile factory that was renovated to create art studios and the Gorse Mill Gallery. Among the building’s artists are potters, ceramicists, glass blowers, painters, sculptors, mosaic artists, jewelers, photographers, authors, illustrators, stained-glass artists, graphic designers, mixed-media artists, silk painters, and a storyteller. Several artists offer a variety of classes as well. The building is wheelchair accessible and has on-site parking. For more information visit www.gorsemillstudios.com
