Table for twelve? Not likely going to be a problem at Needham High School anymore with the new cafeteria expansion that is going in this summer. The 3,000 square-foot space should be able to handle the projected increase in the student body.
In the beginning of August, though, people might be wondering about some things. Will the work be done in time for the upcoming school year? What would the contingency plan be?
Steve Bailey, the Site Supervisor for the contracting company, seems to think so. Everything is blocked out between the beginning of August and August 24, the date “substantial completion” should be done. Bailey hopes “the inside gets done. It’s very tight on the exterior right now, but we’re planning on getting it completed. If we don’t get all the paving done, the worst case scenario is we put black tarp down.”
Even if everything is not completed by the time school resumes this year, the expansion will be usable for the 2016-2017 school year.
Despite time seeming like it’s running out, Bailey is grateful for what they’ve got. Originally, it seemed like the town wanted the construction to start after school let out for the summer so that it wouldn’t be a distraction or disturbance. Instead, the expansion started over April vacation. Bailey says it was a good thing that it happened then too, because of glacial till under the surface that could have impeded construction starting in June after school let out.
Due to the construction, no pictures were available to be taken inside at this point in time. It seems we will just have to wait for construction to be completed at the end of the month to see the finished product.
