On Sunday, January 12, mezzo-soprano Renée Tatum and pianist Douglas Sumi will offer a program of Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth-Century music. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Avenue, Needham. This event is presented by the Needham Concert Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing excellent live music to Needham audiences.
Renée Tatum has been praised for her "gleaming vocalism" (Opera News). This season, she has sung roles in "The Magic Flute" at the Metropolitan Opera, in "Götterdämmerung" and "Parsifal" in Taiwan, and in "Il Trovatore" with the Pensacola Opera. She will end the season in "Guilio Cesare" with the Boston Lyric Opera.
Douglas Sumi is a pianist with an international reputation as a vocal coach, conductor, and accompanist to opera stars. Notably, he has worked with Renée Fleming, and he worked for many seasons on staff at the Los Angeles Opera. He currently serves on the faculty of Boston University.
