At a time of deep social division within this country, the Sanctuaries/Washington DC will conduct a special arts workshop entitled “Art & Soul” from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, at First Parish in Needham. The workshop will use different art forms (poetry, music, visual) to help participants deepen their creative and spiritual life and heal themselves and their neighborhoods.
The Sanctuaries (http://thesanctuaries.org/) is a racially and religiously diverse community of over 120 artists working on the front lines of social change in Washington, DC. Their goal is to empower creative people to claim their own spiritual voice and collaborate on artistic projects that promote social change. In particular, they seek to use the power of the creative arts to transform two of the most divisive issues of our time — race and religion — into forces for personal growth and social change. The artists are traveling to Boston to meet local artists and activists working on the front lines of grassroots social movements and justice campaigns.
All experience levels are welcome, however, this workshop is suitable for ages 12+. Participants should RSVP at http://thesanctuaries.org/boston. There is a suggested donation of $20 to support the artists.
The Sanctuaries will also be performing a “Soul Slam” on Saturday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at First Parish in Brookline.
